My name is Mia, which is short of Maria. Maria was one of the most common names in Sweden during the sixties and almost every girl named Maria was called Mia and I was one of them. I grew up in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden and probably the best city in the world :)
I have always been interested in cooking and always been looking for new recipes to try and explore.
But since I jumped on the low carb train more than eight years ago my cooking interest took a turn for the worse. I didn't now what to eat other than meat, chicken and dairy products. Without any flour, pasta and most veggies I was totally lost and I was too afraid to make mistakes in my diet plans and my cooking. As you can tell I wasn't very confident in either of those things and the cooking experiments in this house was very sad, to say the least.
I then started to read all kinds of different blogs (mostly in Swedish) about LCHF- Low Carb High Fat and after reading and following the recipes down to the smallest pinch of herbs, I regained my cooking confident and slowly started to experiment with my own cooking. And it paid of.
Today I still read all different kinds of blogs and find inspiration from all over the place, if I find a recipe which isn't LC I'll transform it until it is. But most of the time I just throw things together and that seems to work. My blog helps me to remember what I cooked and how I cooked it, more than once have I done something spectacular but when wanting to do it again, I can't remember and that can be a bit disappointing, especially for certain family members. I also want my oldest son, who is back in Norway, and my daughter in Sweden, to have a bit of Mom's cooking at an easy reach.
The reason I'm blogging in English is due to the fact me, my husband and our son, moved to Australia six years ago. Being Swedish from the bottom of my heart I have not actually lived there for over ten years, Mr Smorgasbord is actually Norwegian and we lived in Norway before we decided to explore the world and come to Australia.
So when you feel the need to correct my grammar and spelling, please do, but remember I use the ancient language of Swenglish, which is widely used in Swedish expat communities all over the world :)
Another reason, the biggest, is that I want my friends in Australia to learn more about low carb cooking and why this is the best way to eat. My goal is to use as clean products as possible, not buying processed food and to feed my loved ones good, healthy food which is good for us and the environment.
Oh, the photography? I have recently discovered how much fun it is to try to take really good photos with a real camera. The camera is a Nikon D700 and I am such a rookie using it. Good thing I have hubby to show me :)
